Olivem 1000

INCI Name: Cetearyl Olivate (and) Sorbitan Olivate

Olivem 1000
Ingredient Summary:

Olivem 1000 is a natural, plant-based emulsifying wax that's made up of Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate, which come from olive oil. It is use it to create Oil-in Water (O/W) emulsions by helping oil and water mix together. I've found it's really good for moisturizing skin and it spreads really nicely when applied. Olivem 1000 is a natural emulsifier ( COSMOS and ECOCERT approved)

How to Use in Formulations:

Add to the oil phase and heat to 70–75°C to melt fully.

Combine with water phase at the same temperature, then blend with high shear or stick blender.

Optional: Stir while cooling to encourage lamellar structure and smoother emulsion.

Ingredient Benefits:

Creates luxurious, biomimetic emulsions that mimic the skin’s lipid structure.

Provides deep moisturization and improves skin barrier repair thanks to olive-derived fatty acids.

Leaves a silky, non-greasy after-feel often described as “liquid velvet.”

Enhances skin elasticity and promotes a healthy skin microbiome.

Ingredient Properties:

Self-emulsifying: Simplifies emulsion process—no separate emulsifier/co-emulsifier pairing required.

Liquid crystal promoter: Supports stable, lamellar structures that align with skin’s natural lipid layers.

Mild and non-irritating: Suitable even for sensitive or baby skin formulations.

Stabilizer & sensorial enhancer: Improves emulsion stability and skin feel without tackiness.

Non-ionic & PEG-free: Compatible with a wide pH range and ideal for natural formulations.

Best Suited For:
  • Face creams, lotions & serums – especially anti-aging, sensitive skin, or barrier-repair products.

  • Baby care products – due to its ultra-gentle nature.

  • Leave-on body products – body butters, milk lotions, and barrier creams.

  • Hair conditioners & masks – for smoother texture and better spreadability.

  • Post-sun, post-swim or barrier-repair products – thanks to its biomimetic lipid composition.

Synergistic Ingredients for Enhanced Performance:
  • Squalane or Olive Squalene:Enhances skin feel and emolliency while complementing olive origin

  • Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol or Propanediol: Boost hydration

  • Niacinamide or Panthenol:Combine well in barrier-supporting and calming formulations

  • Ceramides & Cholesterol:Reinforce lamellar structuring for true barrier-repair emulsions

  • Xanthan Gum or Sepinov EMT 10:Light gel-phase thickeners to support viscosity and emulsion structure

  • Emollients like Isoamyl Laurate or Coco-Caprylate: To adjust spreadability and sensory profile

Final Thoughts:

Olivem 1000 is a formulator’s dream emulsifier—elegant, reliable, natural, and multifunctional. It’s especially beloved in minimalist, skin-barrier-centric formulations where performance and sensory play equal roles. Whether you're building an anti-aging cream or a lightweight face lotion for swimmers, this olive-derived emulsifier offers both clinical-grade performance and natural appeal.
